Veneers
What are dental veneers?
Veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment designed to enhance your smile by improving the appearance of cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. They're an artful solution tailored to each patient for a natural and accurate look.
They can be chosen as an option for severely discolored teeth or if there are any gaps left after orthodontics treatment or when orthodontics is not appropriate. Veneers are placed individually covering the front surfaces of each teeth.
Crafting veneers is an art form, demanding skill to tailor the shape, color, and appearance uniquely for each patient. Precision is essential for achieving a natural and accurate result.
If you are interested in cosmetic veneers , a comprehensive dental check-up and hygiene is essential before we proceed with veneers. This ensures that any necessary restorations, hygiene, and gum disease are addressed and treated before initiating cosmetic procedures.
Why choose dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a versatile solution that effectively addresses various cosmetic concerns, including:
1. Discolored teeth: Whether stained due to genetics, tea, coffee, red wine, or smoking, veneers offer a solution for discoloration.
2. Missing teeth or gaps: Veneers can bridge small gaps caused by missing teeth, resulting from issues like gum disease, tooth decay, or impact injuries, enhancing your smile.
3. Broken or chipped teeth: Veneers are an excellent option for correcting broken or chipped teeth, restoring them to their original appearance with a single application.
4. Uneven tooth size and shape : Veneers can be used to ensure symmetry in your smile
What types of Dental Veneers are available?
I offer both Porcelain and Composite veneers.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are specially crafted by our expert dental technicians to look just like natural teeth. They are a long-lasting and strong option and can be very minimally invasive. A small amount of your enamel will need to be removed before porcelain veneers are applied to your teeth.
What is the process of placing porcelain veneers?
During the initial appointment, teeth preparation for porcelain veneers will occur. This involves a minimal reduction in specific areas of the enamel from the front surface and biting edge to create space for the veneer. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, cosmetic dental procedures like this are now minimally invasive, prioritizing a conservative approach.
A local anesthetic can be offered to enhance your comfort during the procedure. Following this, impressions are taken, and temporary veneers, if needed, are crafted using a 3D preview model template. This allows you to trial the planned smile design before the final veneers are created at a dental laboratory. Any adjustments can be made to the temporary veneers, ensuring the final veneers meet the desired specifications.
Approximately two weeks later, you are invited back to the clinic where the teeth are isolated from moisture, and the final porcelain veneers are fitted during the second main treatment appointment.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers, applied in a single visit, are highly versatile and durable.
Crafted from a thin layer of composite resin, they are applied to the front teeth and can be sculpted to correct shape and size, ensuring a natural appearance.
What is the process of placing composite veneers?
The procedure for placing veneers made from Composite materials is a little different from porcelain veneers in which the process is usually completed in a single visit. I first prepare the teeth for the dental veneer and apply a resin and mound the composite directly on you teeth.
I may see you a few days later to check everything is going well and you are happy with the result, can eat comfortable and we can carry out further polishing if needed.
What are the main differences with porcelain and composite veneers?
1. Materials: Porcelain Veneers are made from thin ceramic shell and are durable and resist stains. They closely mimic the appearce of natural tooth and provide translucent quality. Composite Veneers are made from tooth colored resin materials and whichever they can achieve a natural look, they may be more prone to staning over time and need further care and polishing.
2. Cost: Porcelain Veneers are typically more expensive than composite veneers. The cost is influenced by the material and the need for customization in a dental lab. Composite Veneers are generally more budget friendly since they can be applied directly by the dentist during a single visit.
3. Durability: Porcelain Veneers tend to be more durable and resistant to wear and tear. With proper care, they can last for a longer duration. Composite Veneers may not be as durable as porcelain and might need replacement or repair sooner, especially if subjected to significant wear.
4. Applications: Porcelain Veneers require a more complex application process. It involves taking impressions, sending them to a lab for fabrication, and then bonding the veneers to the teeth in a subsequent appointment. Composite Veneers can be applied directly by the dentist during a single appointment, as the material is sculpted and bonded to the teeth.
5. Aesthetics: Porcelain Veneers are often considered more natural-looking due to their ability to mimic the translucency and reflection of natural teeth. Composite Veneers provide a good aesthetic result but might not achieve the same level of natural appearance as porcelain.
Choosing between porcelain and composite veneers depends on factors like budget, desired aesthetics, and the specific dental situation. We can discuss these factors in details in our consultation appointments to determine the most suitable option for your individual needs.
